The Importance of Regularly Washing Your Calzuro Clogs and Insoles

Spring isn’t just about clearing out closets and wiping down windows—it’s also the perfect time to give your footwear a fresh start. And if you’re living in your Calzuro clogs, they deserve some love, too.

These shoes work hard. They support you through long shifts, provide stability during surgeries, and power you through back-to-back 12-hour days. But just like any high-performance gear, they need regular care to perform at their best—especially when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene.

Here’s why washing your Calzuro clogs and insoles matters—and how to do it right.

Why Clean Clogs Matter More Than You Think

1. Infection Control Starts at the Ground Level
Whether you're in the OR, clinic, or lab, your shoes are constantly exposed to bacteria, viruses, and contaminants. Regular washing reduces microbial buildup and helps prevent the spread of pathogens between shifts, patients, and even your own home.

2. Extend the Life of Your Calzuros
Cleaning your clogs doesn’t just keep them fresh—it keeps them functional. Dirt, body oils, and sweat can break down materials over time. A quick wash keeps the clogs looking new and ensures their performance doesn’t degrade.

3. Healthier Feet = Happier You
Buildup of sweat, skin cells, and bacteria inside your clogs can lead to odor and even skin issues. Washing both the clogs and the insoles helps reduce foot odor, irritation, and keeps your feet feeling great during long shifts.

Yes, You Can Wash Your Calzuros (And Here’s How)

One of the best features of Calzuro Classic clogs is that they’re autoclavable and machine washable—a rare combo that sets them apart in the world of professional footwear.

For clogs without insoles:

  • Pop them in the washing machine (up to 194°F / 90°C).
  • Or, autoclave them for sterilization in medical environments.
  • Let them air dry—no dryer needed.

If your Calzuros have removable insoles (like Rebels):

  • Remove the insoles and wash them separately with mild soap and warm water.
  • Let them air dry completely before putting them back in.
  • Wipe down the inside of the shoe while the insoles are drying.

For washing your comfort insoles separately:

  • Remove your comfort insoles from your clogs
  • Throw them in the washing machine up to 140°F every week
  • Or, sterilize them in the autoclave up to 257°F

Bonus: If you have multiple pairs, rotate them so one pair always has time to fully dry and reset.

How Often Should You Wash Them?

Think of it like your scrubs—if you wear them daily, they should be cleaned frequently. We recommend:

  • Every 1–2 weeks for casual wear or administrative roles.
  • 1–2 times a week for clinical or surgical settings.
  • Immediately after exposure to bodily fluids or contamination.

A Clean Shoe Reflects a Clean Standard

Regularly washing your Calzuro clogs shows that you take pride not just in your work, but

in how you show up to do it. Clean shoes signal professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for the hygiene standards your workplace relies on.

So go ahead—add your shoes to your spring cleaning checklist. They’ve supported you all year long. It’s time to return the favor.
