Meet Kandie Quick
For more than 40 years, Kandie Quick has built her career in the operating room. As a Certified Surgical Assistant, Kandie currently works on the General Team at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the rest of the surgical team to help each procedure run smoothly.
Over the course of her career, Kandie has worked in Trauma, Cardio/Thoracic, and Neuro before joining the General Team. Her experience has taken her through countless operating rooms, medical centers, and even multiple cities as a traveler, giving her a unique perspective on the surgical profession.
Finding Her Place in the Operating Room
Kandie's interest in the operating room began when she spent of couple of months restocking supplies and working as "the runner" for blood from the blood bank and anything else needed during traumas and emergency cases.
She quickly become fascinated by the way everything seemed to flow, even during the most difficult cases. Working in a teaching hospital alongside interns and residents gave her an early look at the teamwork and precision required in the OR, and she know she had found the career she wanted.
A 12-Hour Day in the OR
Kandie works three 12-hour shifts each week, typically from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Her day begins by changing into surgical scrubs and reviewing the schedule to see which cases are planned, which operating room she is assigned to, and which surgeons she'll be working with.
From there, the team opens the sterile supplies needed for each case, scrubs in, prepares the sterile instruments and supplies, and gets the room ready for the patient. Throughout the procedure, Kandie works closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists to support the surgical team.
Depending on the number and length of surgeries scheduled, she can spend five, six, or more hours standing during a single shift.
Why Kandie Chooses Calzuro
Kandie first discovered Calzuro through residents at the teaching hospital where she began her career. Several of the residents wore Calzuro clogs and swore by them, so when one resident offered to let her try his pair for a day, she decided to give them a chance.
Even though the clogs were too big for her, Kandie noticed a difference by the end of the day. Her feet and legs felt great throughout her shift and even after she got home.

A Career She Loves
After more than four decades in the operating room, Kandie's passion for her profession hasn't faded. She's worked across Trauma, Cardio/Thoracic, Neuro, and General teams and spent about five years working as a traveling surgical professional in multiple cities and medical centers before returning to Indiana to be closer to family.
Through every role and every operating room, Kandie has continued to find purpose in the work she does.
